Ayurvedic Medicine is gaining lot of respect and popularity in United States, as well as around the world. In fact, it is the original “lifestyle and personalized medicine,” which is effectively tackling the burden of lifestyle disorders. To support the growth of this profession, there is an increasing need for authentic Ayurvedic education and standardization of the curriculum to develop core competencies. The Ayurvedic Accreditation Commission (AAC) is a giant stride to pave the way for licensure of Ayurveda in the USA. It is an independent body dedicated to evaluating programs and schools: curriculum, faculty, and their ability to impart clinical education. It will create a uniform structure of Ayurvedic education that will allow prospective students to compare and select an accredited program. It will enable us to create modern day Ayurvedic practitioners with great emphasis on ethics, scope of practice and clinical skills. I have been practicing Ayurveda in the US for the last 30 years and have worked in many different positions and capacities to serve the Ayurvedic community. Currently, I am an Adviser to NAMA and a founding board member at AAC. I am passionate about Ayurvedic education and simply hope that we can support the success of the best Ayurvedic training outside India and move towards licensing for Ayurvedic professionals.
